Nickolas Likhachov chairs the Banking Committee of the Ukrainian Advocates’ Association

Nickolas Likhachov, Counsel, Head of Banking and Finance at Spenser & Kauffmann, Attorneys at Law has been appointed as Chairman of the Banking Committee of the Ukrainian Advocates’ Association.

The respective decision was adopted by the Board of the Ukrainian Advocates’ Association at its last meeting on September 29, according to the Ukrainian Advocates’ Association.

During his career, Mr. Likhachov supported more than ten international M&A transactions of Ukrainian banks and corporations. He has a significant experience in restructuring and sale of distressed debts and assets, asset-backed loans and general project finance. Nickolas has experience in representing both debtors and creditors.

Mr. Likhachov regularly serves as an Arbitrator at the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, one of the most famous and prestigious competitions on international commercial arbitration for law students worldwide.

Nickolas graduated with honors from the Kyiv International University, as well as from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London, UK, and holds the certificate of an International Arbitrator. He is a member of the Board of the British-Ukrainian Law Association (BULA).

N. Likhachov believes that the most urgent tasks of the Banking Committee include the creation of efficient platforms for discussion of present-day issues of banking and finance law. In particular, the Committee plans to attract experts from various areas of practice – legal advisors of banks and financial institutions, lawyers of leading Ukrainian law firms, representatives of government institutions, and to establish cooperation with Ukrainian sectoral associations, sectoral governmental authorities, such as the Household Deposit Guarantee Fund and the National Securities and Stock Market Commission, as well as foreign legal organizations and foreign law firms.

“We plan to hold a Committee’s meeting as early as this month and are going to invite there a representative of the Household Deposit Guarantee Fund and representatives of banks and experts in banking and finance law, and are going to discuss the problem of optimization of the operations of the Household Deposit Guarantee Fund with insolvent banks,” shared his short-term plans Mr. Likhachev while promising the varied and interesting agenda of events of the Banking Committee of the UAA.
